Pembroke Lodge Wedding
Fiona & Tom – A beautiful wedding on a rather windy day in Summer. I can’t really get enough of these guys, I met Fiona as we walked around their venue, Pembroke Lodge, along with one of their daughters, Matilda. When she told me it was a very family orientated wedding I knew I was going to love it! If anyone knows me, knows I absolutely adore my family photography, and having lots of kids at weddings not only makes it feel more homely, it makes for lots of fab moments too!
Fiona (or Fona as she’s affectionately known) and Tom were keen to have the atmosphere of the day captured rather than too much focus on the details and the more typical ‘day plan’. I love this approach as it means I get to blend in chatting with the guests a little, get to know everyone a bit more and maintain that lovely natural and relaxed environment. I started the day at St Joseph’s Church in New Malden, which was an enormous and beautiful building! It was a fairly formal ceremony so I was asked to keep my distance but I am really pleased with the shots I was able to achieve. Especially capturing the adorable flower girls, some of whom did little bidding prayers which just about made my heart explode!
We came outside to glorious sunshine, although for July we definitely had a bit of unseasonal wind which contributed way to some quite fun photos – also, I LOVE that Fona had her hair down, I have total hair envy now as it’s absolutely stunning and looked flawless all day, despite the crazy wind! We all headed off to the lovely Pembroke Lodge in the middle of Richmond Park and enjoyed just the most relaxed and gorgeous reception. The kids had a riot with face painting and balloon making, as did some of the adults (!) and I couldn’t have felt more blessed that I was involved in such a perfect day.
Fona & Tom and I headed off to take some photos round Pembroke’s stunning gardens. July really is the perfect time of year, all the roses were out and Fona’s simple but stunning Laure de Sagazan dress just looked so pretty amongst all the foliage. The speeches that followed were emotional, witty, heart-felt and truly lovely to listen to. It’s no secret that the speeches are my favourite part of the day to shoot. There are so many moments, glances and fleeting looks of love thrown around I sometimes don’t know where to point my camera! This wedding was no exception, and all you could see was how much their guests adored them.
Then came a wonderful end to a fabulous day, a blooming brilliant dance-floor! Everyone got involved in the first dance, and essentially didn’t stop! It was a full dance-floor from the minute I started shooting until it was sadly time for me to depart. Looking back through these photos (almost 2 years later..what!) has been a delight. I had forgotten about so many wonderful moments, and so many lovely faces I’d met. This is the best part of the job, being able to reflect upon photos from years ago, hoping that as the years go by, they’ll become even more important to my couples. Thank you, lovely Fona & Tom, for being the sweetest, most chilled out, and fun couple to work with. I treasure the day I had with you, and I hope you’ll have the best life together. Here are a few of my faves from your day! x
